Austin State Rep. Dianne White Delisi provided the following statement today regarding Governor Rick Perry's executive order on cervical cancer vaccination:
"While I respect Governor Perry's goal to reduce cervical cancer, I join with other legislators who think the governor's cervical cancer vaccination policy should come before the Texas Legislature. This is an issue of strong interest to me and to my constituents. This issue requires public hearings, citizen testimony, and debate on the floor of both the Texas House and Senate. My public record reflects a longstanding commitment to the absolute authority of parents when it comes to health care decisions involving their children. I must consider carefully the costs and benefits of all proposed health care legislation. I defend the constitutional role of the legislature in balancing budgetary priorities and available funding."
