"In 2005, the Texas Legislature unanimously passed legislation which we authored and sponsored to create a plan to eliminate mortality from cervical cancer in our state within 10 years. More than 50 of Texas finest cancer experts worked to create a comprehensive plan to achieve this goal. This plan has now been officially released and we support many of its findings and recommendations. It offers our state a detailed roadmap for eliminating mortality from cervical cancer and it does so without requirements for human papilloma virus (HPV) vaccine mandates. We are working to take the thoughtful recommendations from this report and move them through the Texas Legislature and to the governor's desk. This comprehensive plan offers a collaborative way to meet the shared goals of both the Texas Legislature and the governor to save women's lives in Texas. It does so using strategies where we can work in a partnership to accomplish this goal. We believe it moves Texas' fight against cervical cancer forward. It is now time to make it happen."
