Delisi announces reelection bid and personal goals for next session

Austin –State Representative Dianne White Delisi today announced that she is seeking reelection to District 55 of the Texas House of Representatives.

Delisi said her decision to seek another term was prompted by the challenges facing Texas and her commitment to be part of the work toward the solutions.

"The decision the Texas Legislature makes regarding public education will have enormous impacts for the future of our state," Delisi continued. "We must have an educated population for Texas to excel – and we have to do it at a cost the taxpayer can afford."

Delisi listed some of her personal goals for the next legislative session. These include:

  • Substantial property tax reduction.
  • A method of financing public education that better fits with our modern economy.
  • Better compensation for classroom teachers.
  • Targeted incentive pay for educators who demonstrate improvement in student achievement.
  • Continuing the work on IH-35 with expansion to three lanes in both directions, with two lanes of continuous frontage roads.
  • The implementation of a system of portable medical health care records to avoid the disruptions and confusion highlighted in the Hurricane Katrina evacuation.
  • Improving the health care of Texans, with an emphasis on access to primary care to avoid unnecessary emergency room use.

"There are major opportunities to advance our state over the next two years," Delisi said. "It will require a willingness both to work hard and work together to get things done in Austin. I think that I have demonstrated a willingness to do both over the years."

Delisi currently serves as the Chairman on the House Committee on Public Health and as a member of the Public Education committee. Public education and health care are currently the number one and number two highest areas of expenditures in the Texas budget.

"There will be some big hills to climb in the next two years, but that's what makes it exciting," Delisi concluded. "I am looking forward to both the reelection campaign and continuing to work in Austin on behalf of my district."
